As mentioned in my previous post, one of the biggest causes of panic attacks is the fear of having one itself. This is a very crucial point - because it tells us that panic attacks can feed upon themselves. You had something resembling ananxiety attack episode, and now your mind is filled with thoughts:
"When is the next episode going to happen?"
"Will it be when I'm doing things like driving? Or shopping? or watching TV? When?"
"What if this next panic attacks pushes me over the edge and does permanent damage?"
I am sure a lot of you panic attacks sufferers can identify with those endless questions. For overcoming panic attacks, their causes have to be understood well and the above question is both the cause and result of panic attacks. So, how to cure panic attacks when this is the situation? How do you break the cycle?
This might seem counter-intuitive, but the most powerful (and maybe the only) way of breaking this cycle of fear that feeds on itself; is to invite the fear - invite the panic attack. This might seem like a horrible thought to some of you - but there is actually nothing to worry. It's a medical fact that no panic attack can cause permanent damage. Overcoming panic attacks needs that you not be afraid that they can cause some permanent physical damage - because they can't.
By not being afraid of a panic attack, and by inviting one, you are accomplishing a great deal on the way of curing your panic attack.
